On My Way To Jorvik receives rave reviews in North Yorkshire

April 20, 2014

“I couldn’t put it down,” said Francis Pryor, author, archaeologist and presenter of BBC TV Channel 4’s Time Team. “The opening of the Jorvik Viking Centre was a watershed moment in the history not only of archaeological heritage management but also of archaeology itself.” Douglas C. Comer, Ph.D., RPA, Co-President, ICAHM.

While my book is informative and reveals my revolutionary immersive approach to the interpretation of York’s Viking history, it’s also a heart-warming and often times hilarious story of the people behind it. After all, I did manage to make a museum  more like a film and a lot more fun.

I’m very proud and excited of the response my book received in York, UK during the past 3 weeks during which time I launched the book during Jorvik’s 30th anniversary.

It’s received a whirlwind of attention: a book signing at Jorvik, a BBC TV guest appearance on Look North Yorkshire,

two BBC York Radio interviews by Elly Fiorentini for her Drive Time show, interviews in the Yorkshire Post, The York Press, The Wakefield Express (my hometown), and the Dalesman Magazine (out in May). My book’s now in stock at the Jorvik Museum Shop, Hepworth Wakefield Gallery, the Wakefield Library, St. John York University Library, Rickaro Books in Horbury and Ken Spelman Books, York. We’re pretty sure it’ll be available eventually at Waterstones Books in York too. On top of that there’ve been many happy reunions with friends and colleagues from over the years. I couldn’t be happier!

You can buy On My Way to Jorvik from Amazon.com, Amazon Europe and Kindle. It’s a fun read and truly a ‘cinderfella’ story, an inspiration for any freelance minded, creative person who has a dream to fulfill. Once you read it, please give it a review and help the cause.
